How Does Creatine Build Muscle?

June 7, 2009 by

Whether you have been bodybuilding for many years or have just started, you would have almost certainly heard of creatine and its effects on the muscles. Like many supplements, it can be a great thing to use as part of your bodybuilding workout.

So how does creatine build muscle?

The whole function of creatine is to retain water in the muscle. When your muscles are retaining water, it makes them more capable of building new muscles. So creatine in effect helps your muscles to grow themselves. Of course, when weight training you are enhancing this even further.

Creatine is very safe to use and shouldn’t be confused with other supplements such as steroids. Often people assume all supplements are dangerous and just a way of “cheating” to build muscle fast. This is of course completely untrue. Most bodybuilding supplements just help the body to grow its muscles more effectively by giving them what they need.

When this is combined with an extensive bodybuilding workout and well balanced diet, the results can be spectacular.

Protein shakes are another great way to get crucial protein into your body. Ideally you should consume one straight after training as the protein will immediately take effect and start to grow you muscles. It also repairs the muscles if they have become torn or damaged during training.

So the next time you think about using creatine to build muscle, remember that it is totally safe and is used by thousands of people all over the world. Just be sure to follow the instructions carefully and you’ll be on your way to bigger muscles before you know it!
